The continued growth of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte has increased the importance of developing reliable and environmentally sustainable solid waste management facilities.
Challenge
The growing volume of municipal solid waste in Ilocos presents increasing challenges in waste management, particularly in ensuring the safe containment and disposal of landfill leachate. Without an effective lining system, leachate can infiltrate the surrounding soil and groundwater, leading to environmental contamination and potential public health risks. These challenges highlight the need for reliable landfill containment systems that provide long-term environmental protection.
Solution
To address the challenges of landfill containment and leachate management, an HDPE Liner System was utilized as the primary impermeable barrier. The liner effectively prevents leachate from seeping into the surrounding soil and groundwater, minimizing the risk of environmental contamination. With its excellent chemical resistance, low permeability, and high durability, the HDPE liner provides long-term containment under harsh landfill conditions. Integrated with the landfill’s drainage system, it offers a reliable and environmentally sustainable solution for modern waste management.
Products Used
• HDPE Geomembrane

Installation Methodology
The installation of the HDPE liner begins with the preparation and grading of the subgrade to provide a smooth, stable surface free from sharp objects and debris. The HDPE liner panels are then carefully deployed, aligned, and welded together to form a continuous impermeable barrier. All seams are inspected and tested to ensure watertight integrity before the liner is covered with the specified protective or drainage layers. A final inspection is conducted to verify that the installation complies with the approved design and project specifications.
